Tango Postale, International Festival of Argentine Tango
1st to 7th July 2013

Why come to Tango Postale ?

2013 Affiche

The festival is very special, a visitor from London said “ Toulouse is a tango paradise”, during the week long festival tango is danced from lunchtime to the early morning, in tree lined squares, by the riverside, in the streets and in the parks. The festival aims to encourage a wide appreciation of Porteno culture including folk-dance, candombe, and especially music; so in 2012 we heard 6 orchestras, in concert and for dancing. Many of the milongas are free, thanks to support from the city, for example there is one every afternoon by the river Garonne.

Toulouse itself is called the rose pink city, a Spanish city in France, youthful with 100,000 students, and is reputed for its cuisine and its warmth. A beautiful city graced by parks, an ancient historic centre and a thriving night life. A city of tango, birth place of Carlos Gardel, with several milongas every week end, supported by a dozen tango associations. It is linked to London by a dozen flights a day and as well as other European destinations; the festival office, reputed for its warm welcome, will help with accommodation advice.

    • A Peña, an evening of song and dance, around dinner, last year 250 attended
    • A concert with one of more major tango orchestras in historic St Pierre des cuisines
    • A daily milonga in the open air in the early evening, free and on the riverside
    • Evening milonga on the river in the ancient watermill of Toulouse and elsewhere in the city
    • Grand Balls on Friday and Saturday ; including orchestras and demonstrations in the largest hall in Toulouse with a specially laid large wooden dance-floor
    • They are followed by afters until dawn in a nearly place
    • Films exhibitions and conferences on tango and its associated cultures often free
    • Classes on tango, both dance and music, and on Argentine folk-dances
    • Concluding with a despedida with guest artists
